This is going to be my Dad's Father's Day card this year, each of us made our own today using this basic idea but the stamp set and colors that we thought would be best for the men in our life.

Summer by the Sea

Accessories: Hodgepodge, Grosgrain Ribbon, Sponge, Post-it Paper

This monochromatic card allowed us to stamp the image first on a piece of vanilla paper. Using two pieces of a larger post-in note size paper (each torn in half, lengthwise) we make a box that framed the stamped image. Using a stamping sponge we shaded the inside area of the box moving from darker to lighter (in the center) to make the image stand out. We then stamped the background stamp on the kraft paper and started layer the card stock. Before attaching the final layer we used the hodgepodge and ribbon to add an accent.

The vanilla paper is first overlayed with an oval template so that the image can be stamped inside the oval frame. The artichoke ink is sponged around the edge of the template to create the oval frame on the paper. The vanilla paper is then cut down to the size wanted and mounted with both a complimentary and a contrasting color. The background is stamped onto the card, the eyelets are added for embellishment, and then the entire main image is mounted onto the card. A simple and yet stylistic card.

Technique: Masking

This card is done by stamping the front pear and then using a mask (of the pear) to create depth for the second pear. The background stamp was then used to add the words to the image and the pear colors (summer sun, old olive) were sponged onto the card stock. The pears were then cut out and mounted on the various layers of paper for framing. The tool kit was used to create the patterns in the corner of the card itself and the saying was stamped by inking only half the saying and stamping it over the lying down pear and then inking the second half of the saying to stamp alongside the front pear. It is a very simple and yet striking card.
